American Youth Soccer Organization Providing world class youth soccer programs that enrich children's lives.

AYSO Region 1631 - Downtown San Jose

AYSO Region 1631 is a volunteer-run, non-profit youth soccer league serving families in downtown San Jose.

We deliver high-quality youth soccer programs in a fun, family environment based on the AYSO’s Six Philosophies: Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, Player Development, Everyone Plays, Open Registration, and Balanced Teams.

Region 1631 is a proud member of the American Youth Soccer Organization, the oldest youth soccer club in the United States. Founded in 1964, the AYSO now has 500,000 players nationwide and over six million alumni. The AYSO is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Coaching Education.

Our region in San Jose, California was established in 2014 and serves over 230 families in and around the downtown region. Join us!

When does the season start?
Fall season runs from early September through mid-November. Spring season runs from early March through mid-May. A typical season includes 9 or 10 games.

When are practices and games?
There are no weekday practices for the 5U and 6U age groups. 8U teams practice one night per week with games on Sunday afternoons. 10U, 12U and 14U teams practice two nights per week with games on Saturdays (times vary). Weekday practices usually start between 5 and 6 PM and end by 7 or 7:30 PM. Many teams practice either Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday, but the exact practice schedule is up to the head coach. When you register a player, you will indicate which days they can attend practice, and we use this information when we assign players to teams.

Where do we play?
Our home field is Backesto Park. Field availability changes each season, and sometimes we also play at Flickinger Park, Watson Park, and Marijane Hamann Park in San Jose. Our 10U, 12U and 14U teams occasionally play games against other AYSO regions in neighboring cities such as Sunnyvale, Cupertino, and Saratoga.

What can I do as a volunteer?
AYSO is 100% volunteer run and every family helps out to create a fun, positive soccer experience for the kids. You can choose to volunteer as a coach, referee, board member, equipment manager, field manager, field liner, or many other important roles. You can also help out at one-time events like in-person registration days or tournaments. Many volunteer roles only take a few hours per season.
